Sanathnagar Residents Anxious After Daylight Robbery

Hyderabad: A broad daylight robbery attempt in the Sanath Nagar residence of a senior army official serving on the border, where his elderly mother and maternal uncle reside, has now caught the residential locality gripped in fear.

The residents are more worried as the inmates in a majority of the houses in the locality are elders whose children are either abroad or staying away from their parents due to work like the army official. The incident happened close to Sanath Nagar police station of Cyberabad commissionerate in the city on October 9.

The suspects, allegedly part of an interstate professional gang, broke into one of the portions and even broke the almirahs and cupboards. But inmates got alerted and managed to nab one, identified as Sameer, while the other, identified as Shiva, was absconding.

The residents said that this was the first time such an incident had happened. “ They were carrying a long iron rod and even pushed away one of the inmates in their attempt to escape. He had a very narrow escape in the incident,” the inmates told Deccan Chronicle.

They appealed to the police to nab the other suspects at the earliest possible and also increase surveillance on the movement of new and suspicious persons in the area.

Sanath Nagar SHO G Balraju said that they have remanded Sameer to judicial custody, and the hunt is on to nab the other accused. “ We have also intensified patrolling in the area and deployed a special team to keep an eye on the movement of suspicious persons in all the localities,” he added.
