Bengaluru: Two held for robbing, killing a biker

Bengaluru: The Kodigehalli police have cracked down a theft cum murder case and arrested two men.

The incident took place on August 19 and three policemen, including an inspector, were suspended for dereliction of duty.

The accused have been identified as Chetan and Mohammed Mansoor Sherif, both aged 22, and residents of Yeshwanthpur.

According to the police, on August 19 around 10 pm the victim, identified as Chandrashekar had gone to a hotel in Hebbal along with his friend Narayanaswamy, While returning home on their bike the two accused intercepted them near Ring Road and threatened them to hand over their valuables.

Narayanaswamy handed over his mobile phone and Rs 3,000 in cash, but Chandrashekar resisted. One of the assailants stabbed him on his thigh and made away his valuables. The passersby rushed Chandrashekar to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed.

The hospital had registered a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) and intimated the jurisdictional police.

However the Kodigehalli police failed to register a robbery case even on the next morning. Chandrashekar succumbed to his injuries around 3 pm on August 20 and Kodigehalli police registered an FIR on the night after his death.

City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar suspended police inspector Rajanna, assistant sub-inspector Rajanna and constable Jairam for failing to register an FIR on time, despite a medico-legal case.

A special team was formed to nab the culprits. After the arrest, the police seized the weapon used to commit the crime along with two mobile phones and a bike from the accused.

A senior officer said Chetan was previously arrested by the Yeshwantpur police for attempt to murder, but was later released on bail.
