Tamil Nadu: Rs14.7 lakh seized from RTO offices
Chennai: Coordinated raids at Regional Transport Office (RTO) and offices of transport officials at 11 districts across the state by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) officials yielded Rs 14.7 lakh, unaccounted cash, and documents.
About half the unaccounted cash - Rs 6.7 lakh - were seized from RTOs in three southern districts- Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari alone. Raids were conducted at RTOs in Dindigul, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts.
Apart from the RTOs, raids were held at the offices of transport department officers in Theni, Pudukottai and Sivagangai and at the joint sub-registrar office at Saidapet in Chennai. DVAC-Chennai sleuths seized unaccounted cash worth Rs1.18 lakh and documents from the joint sub-registrar office at Saidapet and registered a case. The maximum cash seizure was recorded by the DVAC-Tirunelveli, who managed a haul of Rs 3.58 lakh from Tirunelveli RTO while in Nagapattinam, unaccounted cash worth Rs 8,800 was seized by DVAC personnel. In Theni district, DVAC officials seized Rs1.41 lakh cash and documents from the section office of Uthamapalayam motor vehicles inspector. Rs1.35 lakh was seized from the Aranthangi motor vehicles inspector office in Pudukottai district. DVAC sources said that raids are expected to continue in transport department offices in other districts and in sub registrar offices across the state in the near future.
