Tamil Nadu: Gold medalist Mariyappan made party in litigation
Chennai: The Madras high court has permitted a litigant, whose son was found dead near a railway track in Salem district following a quarrel allegedly with a gold medalist and his associates, to implead them as parties to her petition, which sought police protection to her and her family members as she was facing life threat allegedly from them.
Justice M.S.Ramesh posted to October 24, further hearing of a petition filed by M.Muniyammal. According to Muniyammal, on June 3, 2017, her 19 year-old son Sathishkumar was assaulted by T. Mariyappan, a gold medalist, and his associates Yuvaraj and Sabari for damaging their car while he was driving a two-wheeler.
After he reached home also, they attempted to attack him. Because of her intervention, they snatched his mobile phone and left. He ran behind them to get the cellphone. Thereafter, he did not reach home.
On the next day, he was found dead near railway track in her Periyavadugampatti village. Suspecting the involvement of the trio in the death of Sathishkumar, her daughter gave a complaint.
But the police failed to investigate the case properly. Her family members have been humiliated and harassed.
The police officers were treating the offenders with creamy layer concessions since Mariappan has won gold medal and brought laurels to the nation. Now, the offenders were allegedly unleashing life threat to her and her family members. Therefore, she filed the present petition seeking police protection, she added.
