Tiruchy: 2 marriages called off after dowry harassment case

Tiruchy: The marriages of a woman police sub-inspector and a teacher on Wednesday was stopped after complaints of dowry harassment.
The sub-inspector was to be married to Arunkumar, (32) working as a office staff at a private school at Manaparai. However, the grooms side threatened to stop the marriage, demanding dowry. The bride-to-be woman police in her complaint to the All Women police at Manaparai said Arunkumar’s allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh as dowry, and his mother asked for Rs 3 lakh for wedding expenses. His family have however filed a counter complaint stating that the family had tried to conceal her health condition. Police are investigating.
Similarly, the marriage of a woman school teacher with a private firm employee to be performed on Wednesday was also stopped on a charge of dowry demanded by the bridegroom’s side.
Based on the bride family’s complaint, police arrested the bridegroom Mahendran and are investigating.
