Hyderabad: Depressed that he would not be allowed to participate in the Laddu auction in his neighbourhood on the day of Ganesh festival, a 20 year old from Kukatpally immolated himself. The boy poured turpentine oil on his body and set himself ablaze on Sunday , police said.
According to Kukatpally inspector V. Prasanna Kumar, the youth was identified as Pallepu Sai, a resident of Janata Nagar in Moosapet of Kukatpally was working as a painter. “It is learned that last year, Sai participated in the auction of Laddu during Ganesh festival and bought it for Rs 22,000. He could not pay the complete amount. so the locals decided not allow him to participate in the auction this year. Depressed about it, Sai on Sunday night set himself ablaze,” inspector Prasanna Kumar said.
