Hyderabad: The Chilkalguda police on Monday arrested a man for posing as a police official and cheating people promising them jobs in the police department. The arrested, Agolopu Sridhar Goud, 36, is an unemployed from Padmaraonagar. The arrest was made after a complaint was filed by a private sector employee stating that Sridhar Goud had cheated them by taking Rs 10 lakh claiming to be a police officer and can get their son-in-law a job.
Sridhar’s wife, Nandini, 29, was a frequent visitor to Kiran Kumar’s place and was a friend of his wife, Sandhya Rani. Nandini told Sandhya that her husband works in the police has good contacts with top officers. Believing her, Sandhya informed her that her son-in-law, who appeared for constable exams, was awaiting results. Nandini said her husband could help her son-in-law to pass the exams and introduced her husband Sridhar, to the victim in August 2016. He demanded Rs 5 lakhs for the job and the family paid him. Later, he again collected Rs 26,000 dressed as a cop.
After two months, he informed them that the TS government had stopped recruitments of 300 candidates and their son-in-law is among them. He then called the victim and said a post is vacant at the DGP’s office. Police said Sridhar showed some papers purportedly signed by the Chief Minister. Believing him, they gave him Rs 5 lakh in two instalments. He gave an app-ointment letter which would take effect on January 2, 2018. “Getting suspicious the family approached the police and a case was booked,” said North Zone DCP B. Sumathi.
