Hyderabad: Notorious bike thief jailed under PD Act

In all these cases, the accused, A. Krishnamraju of Jawaharnagar, stole 14 motor cycles.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday detained a notorious bike thief under the Preventive Detention Act. Police said that he was involved in 10 cases in Jawaharnagar, Alwal and Bollaram police station limits in the last three months.

In all these cases, the accused, A. Krishnamraju of Jawaharnagar, stole 14 motor cycles.

The ownership of four vehicles has not yet been established bt cops.

Jawaharnagar police arrested the accused on July 3 and sent him to judicial custody. He was lodged at the Cherlapally Central Prison.

The police recovered 14 bikes worth Rs 11.8 lakh from him.

Krishnamraju hails from Kondapur village of Kamareddy district.

Police said he came to Hyderabad 10 years ago in search of a job and worked in several private firms.

In due course, he got addicted to liquor, toddy, ganja, gambling and cigarettes.

As a result he faced serious financial problems and decided to steal bikes to meet expenses. Police said preventive detention orders were invoked against him by police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat. He was sent to Central Prison on Friday after he was arrested.
