Chennai: Man held for sexually assaulting mentally ill
Chennai: Five days after a mentally challenged girl was sexually abused near Arumbakkam, police arrested a 28-year-old man, a security guard in connection with the case. The accused, P Sivasankaran is a resident of Red Hills and worked as a security guard in a private firm.
On Sunday evening, the girl, a 14-year- old, was playing near her house on Sunday evening when the accused approached her. He told her that her father was looking for her and promised to get her biryani. The girl's father works as a truck driver. Later, he had taken her to a cinema hall where he reportedly sexually assaulted her, police said. Hours later, the teenager was put on an autorickshaw and sent home. She narrated the incident to her parents who approached the police with a complaint. In another case in Madipakkam, a 22-year-old man, M Prashanth was arrested for sexually abusing an eight-year-old. Both of them were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
