State Bank of Travancore pays for ATM fraud, beefs up surveillance

The bank also enhanced the physical surveillance of all its ATMs across the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Bank of Travancore has credited the amounts lost by its account holders due to the fraud committed by the Romanian gang. A statement from the bank said that about 15 customers who had complained of having lost cash after they used the ATM of SBI at Althara here were reimbursed the lost amount in full. The bank also enhanced the physical surveillance of all its ATMs across the state.

About 200 of ATMs of SBT were already under a centralised electronic surveillance system and it would be extended to more ATMs soon. As a precaution, the SBT has already blocked the ATM cards of customers who transacted at the SBI, Althara ATM in the recent past. The customers have been informed that new cards will be issued within 10 days. Arrangements were also made to enable the card holders to transact their business at their nearest branches, said the statement.
