Woman injured in wall collapse, GHMC clueless
HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old woman was seriously injured as a wall of a neighbouring dilapidated structure collapsed on her house in Millatnagar of Jahangirabad near Chandrayangutta on Monday morning.
Locals said that the victim, Parveen Begum, was residing in a structure made of asbestos sheets adjacent to the wall.
She suffered multiple fractures to her hands, legs and abdomen, in the incident, and is being treated at the Osmania General Hospital. “Right now, she is out of danger but is unable to speak or move. She suffered five fractures on one of her hands,” said Khaleel, a relative of the victim.
Revenue officials said that the incident took place around 9.30 am and she was shifted to the hospital by noon. “She received multiple fractures and was kept under observation after doctors attended her. On the instructions of the collector, I visited her at the hospital and following verification, forwarded the information to the RDO and collector for further proceedings. As per the norms, she is eligible for compensation and higher officials will be taking a call on that,” said Richard Simon, Bandlaguda tahsildar.
However, GHMC remained clueless about the incident. When asked, officials of the planning wing said they did not know about the incident, while assistant city planners passed the buck among one another, citing jurisdictional issues.
There are over 200 such dilapidated structures within GHMC limits, most of which could not be demolished despite officials issuing notices, as they house several groups of economically weaker people.
