Chennai: Exactly a month after a couple attempted suicide at a private lodge in the city in which the girl died, city police arrested her lover on suspicion of murder.
According to reports, on June 11, a city college student Kajal Kumari (21), was found dead in a lodge in Chepauk, while her boyfriend Sumer Singh (23) who also consumed poison, survived. He underwent treatment at a hospital in the city. Police said that on Wednesday night, after Sumer was discharged from the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital and remanded to police custody on suspicion. Police said that it was not a suicide pact as they had initially concluded. The post-mortem report of Kajal indicated that she was strangled to death. After this, the case was altered to section 302 of the Indian penal code for murder. Sumer Singh of Sowcarpet worked at a marketing firm in the city while Kajal was a college student. Primary investigation revealed that the couple were in a relationship for the past three years. On the day before the incident, the couple booked a hotel room. On June 11, the hotel manager alerted police when the duo did not respond to knocks on the door. On information, at around 7: 30 am
, Triplicane police arrived at the spot and found them unconscious. They were taken to the hospital where Kajal was pronounced brought dead and Sumer was admitted to RGGGH.
