Chennai: Child welfare panel begins probe into minor girl’s rape
Chennai: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Chennai is now investigating the 15-year-old girl held as a hostage and raped by five men for three days.
Primary Investigations with the three arrested women in connection with the case revealed that they had been running the prostitution racket in the city for at least seven years targeting young girls.
Police said a 15-year-old girl who went missing from her house in Puliyantope has approached the police on Wednesday stating that she was held hostage and raped. The police registered a case and arrested three women Sabeena (31) of Puliyantope, Mubeena Begum (37) of Puliyantope and Nisha (36) of Purasavakkam in connection with the crime. According to reports, the teenager moved out of her grandmother's house in Puliyantope where she was staying in. After a fight with her grandmother on July 3, she went to live with a friend in the city. The girl was searching for a job in the city to support herself and she befriended Mubeena Begum, Sabeena's friend, who promised to help her get a job. The two women allegedly took the girl to Nisha's house and locked her in on July 3.
The trio seems to have taken advantage of her desperation to find a job and trapped her. The girl told the police that five men entered the house where she was staying on July 6 and gang-raped her.
Based on her statement, police arrested the women and they confessed to having lured her under the pretext of a job. Police said the trio were actively running the prostitution business in the city for at least seven. Police booked the trio under the Pocso Act and are further investigating. Police have also launched a search for the five men who molested the minor girl. Meanwhile, on Thursday the officials from the Child welfare committee visited the station and conducted inquries with the victim. A report will be filed by the CWC officials.
