Families step in for jailed crooks
A case was promptly registered against the man and the latter was remanded.

Hyderabad: While the history sheeters are in jail or are absconding, their family members, henchmen and associates are cashing in on people's fear and are exploiting them. Several cases of harassment and threatening by the relatives and associates of history sheeters go unreported for the fear of attacks, point out police sources.
For instance, a history sheeter's sister was detained under the Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act and took a house on rent in Hassannagar. She later refused to vacate it. “The family paid Rs 2 lakh to settle the issue and only then did they vacate the house. The woman did not pay rent for about two years,” said a man close to the family of the house owner on condition of anonymity.
Another case, of a father of a history sheeter demanding money from money lenders and threatening house owners was reported at a police station in the city. A case was promptly registered against the man and the latter was remanded.
“In several instances, the family of history sheeters or their associates refuse to pay rent and are also not ready to vacate the house. In fact, they threaten shop owners too to buy groceries,” a victim said. H4
