Son stabs advocate father with machete in Madras High Court premises

Soon, the assailant was overpowered and roughed up by the public and some advocates.

Chennai: An advocate was allegedly assaulted by his son with a machete causing grievous injuries to him over a family feud in the Madras High Court premises today, which led to tense moments, police said.

Advocate Manimaran was attacked by his son Rajesh on the ground floor of the five storied additional law chamber buildings in the High Court premises and he began bleeding after sustaining grievous injuries.

Soon, the assailant was overpowered and roughed up by the public and some advocates. He was later handed over to the police. Both the victim and assailant were rushed to separate government hospitals.

Preliminary probe indicated that the motive for the attack was family dispute, police said.

Esplanade police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The attack led to tense moments in the high security High Court premises, the inner precincts of which is being guarded by the CISF and outer parts by Tamil Nadu police. The incident happened in the area under the ambit of state police.
