Robbery cracked, gang held in Telangana

Cops recover Rs 2 lakh & three mobile phones.

Hyderabad: The south zone police has solved a major robbery case and has nabbed a six-member gang, who allegedly attacked a SIM card distributor's store and fled with his money. The police also recovered Rs 2 lakh from the accused. The arrested men are Md Faisal, Md Riyazuddin, Shaik Abubakar, Abdul Imran, Syed Asif and Md Muqtar. One Md Basith is absconding.

Police said that Faisal, who was working at an Airtel recharge and distribution centre in Moghalpura noticed the heavy cash flow at the store and planned the theft. He approached his friend Riyaz and explained to him his plan and offered a good share in the booty. Riyaz set up a gang with his friends Abubakar, Asif, Muqtar, Imran and Basith, police said.

Last Tuesday, Riyaz, Abubakar, Asif and Muqtar went to the Airtel office, conducted a recce and decided to rob it at Iftar time as all employees will be going for prayers except in-charge Naveen Kumar. The same day evening they came to the store and after Faisal gave the go ahead and the staff left for prayers, Riyaz and five others entered the store. “They pounced on the shop in-charge and closed his mouth. Riyaz opened the cash drawer, emptied the cash in it, and then left him in the store. They also downed the shutter from outside,” DCP V. Satyanarayana said. Later, at night Faisal joined them and they shared the money.

Police nabbed the six and recovered Rs 2 lakh, the autorickshaw of Muqthar and three phones which they had stolen earlier. They admitted that on June 29 midnight, based on information given by Faisal, who was working part time at a haleem centre , they planned to rob the owner while he was going to deposit cash at the Shadab Hotel by sprinkling chilli powder, but failed as they escaped. However, they could manage to steal three mobile phones.

“Asif and Abubakar have a criminal past. Asif was involved in an attempt to murder and Abubakar in two theft cases,” the DCP added. The arrested persons were produced in court.
