Chennai: Man held for sending lewd messages to several girls

Investigatons reveal he was stealing mobiles just to send lewd messages.

Chennai: The police have arrested a 25-year-old man who reportedly sent obscene WhatsApp messages to more than 50 women from the mobile which he had stolen from a 26-year-old man in Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram.

B.Udhaya Raj (26) a resident of Perunkozhi in Uthiramerur, employed in a private firm, was sleeping under a tree outside his house when an unidentified man had stolen his mobile phone.

According to the police, on June 7, the victim lodged a complaint with the Uthiramerur police that someone stole his mobile worth Rs 40,000 when he was sleeping.

Based on the compliant, police launched a search for the man though they had no clue about the robber. Meanwhile, some friends of Udhaya Raj informed him that they have been receiving vulgar and obscene texts from his WhatsApp number, following which Udhaya alerted the police.

The cops traced the accused whow as identified as M.Vinoth Kumar (25) of Kavanur Puduchery in Uthiramerur.

Police on Monday arrested him and recovered 2 high-end mobile phones from him. After investigating him, police found that he would steal mobiles only to send lewd messages to women.

He was produced in Uthiramerur court and sent to Chengalpattu sub-jail, police said.
