Bhopal: Three rare idols stolen from Madhya Pradesh, which are estimated to fetch no less than Rs 10 crore in the international antique market, have been recovered from New York-based art dealer Subhash Kapoor, police said here on Saturday.
The precious art pieces were recovered following raids by US department of Homeland Security in the art dealer’s warehouse in New-York, additional director general of police (CID) G.P. Singh told the media here. The art dealer has been arrested and is currently under trial in Chennai, he added.
“CBI was alerted about the theft and recovered of the three idols stolen from MP by the US security department. The MP police was in turn informed about it by CBI”, he said.
Police sources said steps would be initiated to restore the artifacts soon. The seizure included a sandstone image, and a Lord Vishnu torso, both stolen from Katni in MP in 2006 and a Yakshi idol stolen from Satna district a few years ago....
