Four Maoist couriers arrested in Jayashankar Bhupalpally

WARANGAL: The Kataram police have arrested four members of the banned Maoist group who acted as couriers. Police seized cash of ₹76.57 lakh, five mobile phones, medicines, three gelatin sticks, three detonators, some cordex wire and a car from their possession in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Thursday.

SP, J Surendar Reddy, said the four were Md Abdul Aziz (63), Md Abdul Razaaq (60), both residents of Karimnagar district, J Raghav (26), who belonged to Chhattisgarh and Kausar Ali (27), a resident of West Bengal. Eight others from the group have given a slip to the police.

A police team led by SI Sreenivas was conducting a vehicle check at the Kataram check post when the explosives, cash etc were found in a car. The four were on their way to hand over these to members of a Maoist group.

For the past 10 years, these men were acting as Maoist couriers and were collecting materials from various sources as per the instructions given to them by Maoists, police said.

The police team consisted of OSD Ashok, DSP Rammohan Reddy, CI Ranjith Rao, SIs Srinivas, Sudhakar and Naresh, ASIs Rajkumar and Lakshman Rao, SP Bhaskar said.
