The attackers fled with her mobile phone, gold chain and two-wheeler, leaving her bleeding.

Chennai: Three months after a merciless trio waylaid and mugged her off Old Mahabalipuram Road, Lavanya, who survived the brutal assault, visited city police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan to thank the police and called the Chennai police her family, on Friday.

“It would have taken one year to recover. But I recovered very soon because of the moral support given by police and the Tamil Nadu government,” she told mediapersons.

The Vijayawada-based software engineer P. Lavanya Jahath was riding her two-wheeler on Thalambur – Perumbakkam Road to reach her office in Navalur early morning of February 13. She was trailed, waylaid by three persons and was beaten by the gang on her head with a rod. The attackers fled with her mobile phone, gold chain and two-wheeler, leaving her bleeding.

Some passers-by alerted Pallikaranai police and she was under treatment. Meanwhile, police arrested Vinayagamoorthy (20) and his accomplices Narayanamoorthy (19) and Logesh (19). All three were residents of tsunami quarters in Semmenchery.

The brave looking woman also said that the incident had inculcated willpower and courage in her. “Happy to know that the accused were arrested,” she expressed. Calling Pallikaranai inspector Sivakumar as ‘anna’ (elder brother), Lavanya said that Chennai police is part of her family now.

“I did not have the courage to see my face for 10 days. Sivakumar anna gave me the courage and Tamil Nadu people and my colleagues prayed for my recovery,” she said.

She also said that her life has changed for good after the incident. “God has given me a second life and I am engaged now. Happy to have wonderful life and family,” she gratified. Praising her courageousness, A.K. Viswanathan said that Lavanya is a brave woman and she has joined work again.
