423 grams gold seized from air passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

The gold weighed 423 grams and is worth Rs12.09 lakh. The smuggled gold was seized and the person arrested.

Hyderabad: Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport nabbed an air passenger who was smuggling gold concealed in a chocolate box and a face cream packet on Thursday. The precious metal was in the form of thin foils weighing 423 grams and worth Rs 12.09 lakh.

According to officials, the passenger arrived from Abu Dhabi at around 11 am on board a Jet Airways flight No. 9W 549. Based on credible information, air intelligence teams intercepted the flyer while he was passing through the green channel.

While checking his baggage, they found chocolate boxes under the clothes. On thorough examination of the box, they found that thin foils of gold were laid out inside the two chocolate boxes and a face cream packet.

The gold weighed 423 grams and is worth Rs12.09 lakh. The smuggled gold was seized and the person arrested. The case is under investigation.
