Bengaluru: 2 held for cheating man of Rs 15 lakh

BENGALURU: The police have arrested two people for cheating a man of Rs 15 lakh after promising him 1 kg gold in return. The accused have been identified as Venkatesh alias Srinivas (59), and E. Chandra (45), both hailing from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

The police are on the lookout for their associates Nagaraj, Surendra, Veerapa Naidu and Manjunath, all from Chittoor, and Subramani from Kolar district.
The victim, Thyagaraju, had filed a complaint with Avalahalli police after the accused escaped with his money on March 1.

According to the police, Venkatesh contacted Thyagaraju and told him that he wanted to sell 1 kg gold and convinced the latter to buy it for Rs 15 lakh. The two agreed and later met on Kothanur-Bidarahalli road to carry out the deal. After being convinced that Thyagaraju had brought the money, Venkatesh told him that he had left the gold at his house, which was nearby and asked him to come along to collect it. Few minutes later, a car came and five people got out and joined Venkatesh in assaulting Thyagaraju and they escaped with his money.

Thyagaraju immediately filed a complaint with the Avalahalli police, who formed a special team to nab the culprits. Two of them were arrested on Wednesday and the police recovered Rs 6 lakh and a car worth Rs 7 lakh. The Avalahalli police and are on lookout for the other accused recover the remaining amount.
