3 held for stealing cellphones

The Cyberabad police nabbed a three-member robbery gang on Monday that targeted individuals walking alone at nights.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police nabbed a three-member robbery gang on Monday that targeted individuals walking alone at nights and robbed them of their Jewellery, mobile phones and cash. The police also seized two iPhones and goods worth around Rs 2 lakh from them.

The arrested men are Md Yasin Khan, Md Ayub Khan and Md Afroz Patel, all residents of Rajendranagar. Police said that Yasin, 21, working at a hotel, Ayub 20, working as a salesman at the South India Shopping Mall at Gachibowli and Afroz, 20, working as a sales executive of Bajaj Electronics were friends from childhood and they decided to commit robberies. They also procured a knife and started threatening people with it and extorted money from them.

“They used to move around on bikes at night, threaten people walking alone with a knife and rob them,” LB Nagar inspector E. Srinivas Reddy said. The gang stole a bike and three smartphones including an iPhone 6 model. Police recovered the stolen property and bikes and the knife they used for committing the offences. The men were produced before court.
