Hyderabad: A 32-year-old man who axed his mother-in-law to death was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police on Monday.
E. Venkatesh, the accused, was a drunk who used to harass and physically assault his wife and two children. Venkatesh’s mother-in-law M. Mallamma came to the city on October 27, last year, to convince the couple.
The same evening, when Venkatesh was beating his eight-year-old daughter, Mounika, Mallamma tried stopping him. She was then axed by Venkatesh. Mallamma sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to NIMS Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.
Jubilee Hills police inspector K. Balakrishna Reddy said, “Venkatesh’s wife, Veerla Babamma lodged a complaint with us. We arrested Venkatesh on Monday and sent him to judicial custody after he confessed to the crime.”
