Hyderabad: Fake officer who duped 20 arrested
Hyderabad: A fake IAS officer was arrested by the Chaderghat police on Monday. He had allegedly duped 20 people and taken Rs 6 crore, in the name of offering land, money and jobs.
The police has identified the accused as Sampath Kumar, 29, a private employee and resident of Medipally.
According to the police, Sampath Kumar had prepared a fake identity card of a central government employee and with the help of advocate G. Venkanna, who is absconding, prepared government orders with the help of which he duped 20 people.
The accused was arrested by the Chaderghat Police in Dilsukhnagar on Sunday evening. G. Nagaraju, Inspector of police, Chaderghat, said, “The accused hatched a plan and offered land in Jubilee Hills to the customers who were willing to afford it, stating that there was a scheme from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited through which they could get the land at very cheap rates.”
Previously he used to work as a PRO and by using those contacts; he along with another accused Banerjee, section officer in Parliament ,and one G. Venkanna cheated people.
Speaking about the modus operandi the police official said, “The accused used to win the confidence of victims by offering some money to the victims initially. He used to impersonate as an IAS officer who was working in Parliament as an assistant and administrator officer (AAO). Believing him, many of the customers gave him money as an advance.”
The police cracked the case following a complaint from a person who was cheated by the accused for Rs 1.3 crore.
According to the complaint, the accused impersonated the treasurer of a temple and offered Rs 60,000 as donation for the construction of the temple. The accused cheated the victim stating that he would release Rs 3 crore as funds for the construction of the temple which the victim was building.
In the same manner he also cheated job aspirants by offering them fake jobs.
