Kerala: 11-year-old girl abused by uncle

The incident led to a strong protest from residents and the family was forced to move out to another place in Kochi.

Kochi: A 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her uncle for months and the ordeal was brought to light when neighbours saw her being subjected to torture on the terrace of a rented building at Palarivattom. The accused was identified as Sheyasi Sheikh (32), a native of Uttar Pradesh. According to cops, the family of the victim along with her parents, settled in a rented building on Chandrathil Road, Edapally, five years ago. The victim’s father was working at a local workshop.

“Slowly he brought four of his relatives who stayed with him. The victim’s uncle used to take her to the terrace of the single-storey building on one reason or another and subjected her to sexual assault. Her ordeal was finally revealed when a neighbour witnessed the torture and the residents association informed the Child Line authorities,” police said. Initially the parents and relatives refused the charges, but cops subjected them to questioning two weeks back.

“The minor girl was good at studies, but she enjoyed limited freedom at house. She dared not to speak about the torture and her uncle continued to harass her. A medical examination at the General Hospital proved she was sexually assaulted. A magistrate recorded her statement and the accused arrested,” police said. The incident led to a strong protest from residents and the family was forced to move out to another place in Kochi.
