Tumakuru school tragedy: Former MLA and wife surrender

Police said that couple had taken shelter at a relative's house in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru: Former BJP MLA Kiran Kumar and his wife Kavitha, who were on the run after the death of three students at the hostel of Vidyavaridhi International School run by them, surrendered before the police on Saturday night.

The couple were absconding since Thursday after the Huliyaru police registered an FIR against six people, including them, in connection with the tragic incident suspected due to food poisoning. Police sources said that the couple had taken shelter at a relative's house in Bengaluru.

While special teams probing the case had intensified the search for the couple, they turned up at the Huliyaru police station around 10 pm on Saturday.

“As per the procedure, both were arrested immediately. They will be soon produced before a magistrate and we will request for their police custody,” an official said.

Among the six accused, four have been already granted bail and the couple are also likely to move bail petition when they are produced before the magistrate.
