Hyderabad: Police on Friday arrested mandal parishad development officer Sabavath Jai Singh of Medak district for injuring a woman in Suchitra while driving heavily drunk on Thursday. The victim, identified as Gayatri, suffered a severe head injury and fractures and is said to be in a critical condition.
Police said that the mandal officer, a resident of Kukatpally, was returning home drunk on Thursday at about 5.30 pm in his car (AP 28BM 3336). “When he was near the Suchitra junction, he lost control of the car and hit a woman walking along the roadside,” said Petbasheerabad inspector D.V. Ranga Reddy. Ms Gayatri, a resident of Spring Fields Colony, was shifted to a nearby private hospital. Singh’s blood alcohol recorded 300 mg/dl, 10 times higher than the permitted level of 30 mg/dl.
On a complaint by Ms Gayatri, a case for ‘causing hurt by an act endangering life’ under Section 337 of the IPC was registered against him.Police arrested him on Friday and sent him to judicial remand.
