Kochi: Two weeks after a woman was allegedly raped at gun-point by a duo at Maradu here, the cops arrested a 29-year-old person in this connection. The arrested was identified as Arun S.P., of Mynagappally, Kollam. “The investigation revealed that the accused was a member of a major online sex racket operating out of Kochi. We arrested him from a house at his native place while acting on a tip-off,” police said.
The cops are now on the trail of the second accused, identified as Nazar of Kollam. Nazar is an accused in over a hundred criminal cases including murder, rape and theft cases registered in Kollam district, the police said. The incident happened on January 30 when the duo barged into the house of the 39-year-old woman at Thykoodam. She was alone in the house. They tied her hands behind her back before allegedly raping her.
The woman, wife of a small-time vendor, in her complaint said the accused inserted the barrel of a gun in her mouth and threatened to shoot her when she tried to raise an alarm. The duo then escaped and stole an LCD TV from the house. Initial probe revealed that the duo was known to the victim and visited the house to meet the couple on several occasions as part of a financial deal.
