Bengaluru: After MP, relatives of patient beat up doctors
Close on the heels of the assault on doctors by Uttara Kannada MP Anant Kumar hegde, relatives of a newborn baby beat up three doctors in the district government hospital in Davangere on Wednesday.
The enraged relatives alleged that proper treatment was not given as the baby died a few days after it was admitted to the hospital. The injured doctors have lodged a complaint in the police station seeking protection for them and demanding action against the relatives of the patient.
Mahentesh, who hails from Avaragere in Davangere, had admitted his four month old baby boy in the hospital three days ago as the infant was suffering from minor health problems including fever. The doctors claimed that they kept the baby under round the clock observation though it was not in a critical condition. But, the baby died suddenly early Wednesday morning and this enraged the relatives who assaulted the doctors alleging negligence. The incident of assault was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the hospital..
"Sudden death of the baby might have caused due to some other disease. The doctors have not shown any negligence and the relatives have not given any chance to convince them. We have appealed to the DC and superintendent of police to give us protection", said district hospital superintendent Dr Neelambike.
