Nalgonda: Man dies of heart stroke after police station visit over dispute
Hyderabad: A 50-year-old man who visited the Chintapally police station to settle a civil dispute with his brother died on Monday, allegedly of a heart stroke, following which a sub-inspector of police at the station was suspended for reported involving himself in a civil dispute.
A case of death under suspicious circumstances was also registered by the police after the family members alleged that the victim had died of a police assault.
The deceased man was identified as Nanawath Surya Naik, who went to the police station to settle a dispute with his brother, Bhimla Naik.
Devarkonda DSP G. Giri Babu said that the dispute between the brothers pertained to Rs 3 lakh, which they got after selling some family property. Both resided in Palemthanda of Nalgonda district, he said.
“Bhimla Naik and villagers approached the Chintapally police and sub-inspector Satish Reddy for justice to get money from Surya Naik's son. SI Satish Reddy asked both parties to settle matters out of the police station as it was a civil dispute. Based on a request by Bhimla Naik, discussions took place between the brothers in the presence of the SI. But, when the discussion turned into heated arguments, the police asked them to leave,” the DSP said.
Nalgonda superintendent of police Apoorva Rao issued orders suspending SI Satish Reddy for allegedly indulging in a civil dispute.
“Minutes after Bhimla Naik and Surya Naik left the police station, Surya Naik complained of chest pain, and he was shifted to Devarakonda Government Hospital. Surya Naik entered the hospital on foot and while undergoing treatment, complained of heart stroke and died,” DSP Giri Babu said.
There was no police assault on Surya Naik, despite an allegation made by family members, the police said. However, a case of suspicious death was registered under Section 174 of CrPC. “Based on medical reports, we will alter sections and take action,” the DSP said.
Minutes after the SP issued suspension orders, Satish Reddy said that he did not indulge in assaulting any person in the police station. “They came to the police station in connection with a civil issue and they argued on some payments,” he was reported saying.
