Transformer blast in NTPS Ibrahimpatnam

Luckily, nobody was around near the transformer so no causality was reported.

Vijayawada: Blasting of a transformer in the NTPS, Ibrahimpatnam resulted in a tree fall and also caused a break of 500 MW Power Production on Sunday. In the 7th unit the transformer caught flames suddenly and in no time it blasted. Luckily, nobody was around near the transformer so no causality was reported. The officials rushed to the spot and restored the system within hours. But this is not the first time this type of accident has taken place in the NTPS, Ibrahimpatnam. Every time, the officials have declared that an enquiry has been initiated and action would be taken. But nothing ever came out of it, claim NTPS employees.

This time too crores will have to be spent to get a new transformer. Actually, any problem raised in the transformer is supposed to be sparked off with an alarm. But, no siren or alarm was heard this time. The employees said that they have changed the fleets in this transformer, just three months back. The employees have alleged that despite repeated reminders, the officials do not care about regular maintenance. Meanwhile, the officials have assured that the actual reason of the blast will be tracked and a report based on this would be submitted. As of now, everything has been restored and the production is continuing normally, as per the officials.
