Thiruvananthapuram: Caught in the act, thief stabs teenager, father
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Class XII student and his father were stabbed by a burglar when they tried to catch him red-handed inside their residence at Kunnukuzhy on Sunday. The injured were identified as Bashid, 18, and his father Ismail Sahib, 45, of Plamoodu. Police said the burglar, a history-sheeter from Barton Hill locality, has already been apprehended. The incident occurred at around 2.30am. Bashid, a student of Marion Villa School, woke up hearing noises and saw a man standing in the car porch. He woke up his father and together they went to the kitchen area and opened the bolt to find a dark, hefty man trying to break in.
When the duo caught the man, he pulled out a chisel and stabbed Bashid in his stomach and head. Ismail Sahib also suffered stabs on his back but they continued to wrestle with the man. Hearing the commotion, the neighbours arrived and managed to catch the burglar. They handed him over to police. “Both were taken a nearby hospital where Bashid had to be administered 16 stitches on the head,” said local councillor I.P. Binu.
