Hyderabad: Driver robs elderly under disguise, held
Hyderabad: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for robbing people by visiting them in the guise of a tenant looking for a place to rent. Police charged the accused, Chiteti Narahari alias Nani, with involvement in eight cases of robbery and recovered items worth Rs 7.2 lakh from him. Police said Nani hailed from Nellore district in AP and worked as a driver in the city.
Nani moved around in Balapur, Saroornagar and Vanasthalipuram areas and targeted homes where usually elderly people, particulary women, lived alone.
“He would approach them as a tenant seeking rented space. Once inside the house, he would rob them of gold jewellery at knife-point and speed away on his scooter,” an official said. Police nabbed him near NGO Colony. He confessed to committing eight robberies, including five at Vanasthalipuram and one each at Saroornagar, Balapur and Chaitanyapuri in one year alone.
