Hyderabad: A 20-year-old woman was murdered by her husband on Friday evening after a scuffle broke out between them over dowry issues and her giving birth to a girl.
The woman has been identified by Jeedimetla police as D. Lakshmi, a housewife.
According to the Jeedimetla police the woman and her husband, D. Venkatesh, came to the city five months ago in search of livelihood from West Godavari.
The accused used to work as a watchman at Balaji Layout in Gajularamaram an apartment.
P. Ramana Reddy, inspector of police, Jeedimetla, said “The couple were survived by their 4-year-old daughter. The accused used to scold his wife because she gave birth to a girl, due to which the victim sent her daughter to live with her parents in Kukatpally. An argument broke out between the couple on Friday evening over some financial issues and his addiction to alcohol. The accused was in an inebriated condition and he strangled her to death with the help of a chuni she was wearing in the evening. Fearing he would get caught, Venkatesh fled from the spot.”
The police have registered the case under Section 498 IPC and 302 IPC and launched a manhunt.
Meanwhile the police handed over the body to family members after a post-mortem at Gandhi Hospital.
