Girl studying Intermediate drowned in an agriculture well

Police suspect that she might have fallen in the well while trying to collect leaves from a tree next to the well to feed the sheep

Nellore: A 16-year-old girl has drowned in an abandoned agriculture well following an accidental fall at Mittakandriga village in Naidupeta mandal of Tirupati district on Sunday.

A student of first year Intermediate, the girl identified as Sunkara Deepika, went for grazing the sheep belonging to the family as Sunday being a holiday for the college.

Police suspect that she might have fallen in the well while trying to collect leaves from a tree next to the well to feed the sheep.

Her father and relatives of the girl launched a search after the girl failed to return home on Sunday evening.

They alerted the police after they noticed her sweater and a stick close to the well.

Police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot and made way up the well using an earth moving machine and pumped out the water with the help of motors.

It took nearly seven hours to empty the well and trace the body of the girl during the early hours of Monday.

Naidupeta circle inspector Ch. Prabhakar Rao and tahsildar A. Rajendra had supervised the operation.
