Assistant Professor of Osmania University arrested
Hyderabad: The Telangana police, in continuation of their crackdown on persons with alleged links to the banned Maoist parties, conducted searches at the residence of an Assistant Professor working at Osmania University in Hyderabad. Searches at the residence of Dr K. Jagan’s residence at Tarnaka in Hyderabad, have resulted in the finding of incriminating material, Maoist party letterheads and banned literature. He was then detained by police of Jogulamba Gadwal district.
Earlier, the Hyderabad police registered a case against Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) and arrested its members, while its state president, Maddileti, is absconding in the case. TVV Gadwal district convenor, Naganna, and another member, Balaram, were arrested. A case was simultaneously registered at Gadwal district also.
In continuation of the investigation into the case, Gadwal police, along with the Special Intelligence Bureau, conducted searched Jagan’s residence till late evening and detained him. It was learnt from sources that he was shifted to Gadwal for further inquiry, after which he is likely to be arrested and produced before the court.
Jagan who is working for the University on a contract basis, is also an active member of Virasam.
Meanwhile, Virasam condemned the arrests as illegal and termed them as a suppression of public voices.
As a mark of protest, they are organising programmes at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Friday.
