Hyderabad: Harassed by lover, woman ends life

When Bhikshapati got to know about the alleged relationship, he warned Shravan.

HYDERABAD: Feeling humiliated after her lover reportedly misbehaved with her in front of her husband and children, a 35-year-old woman immolated herself at her house during the early hours on Tuesday. Her family rushed her to the Gandhi Hospital, where she succumbed to her burns.

According to a Dundigal police official, the victim, a labourer, was staying in Gandimaisamma along with her husband J. Bhikshapati , 45, a 15-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son. Since the past few months, the woman was having an extramarital affair with one Dhara Shravan Kumar, 28.

When Bhikshapati got to know about the alleged relationship, he warned Shravan. Police said Shravan was reportedly involved in a murder, instead threatened Bhik-shapati with dire consequences.

Subsequently, Bhiksha-pati shifted his family to another place. However, Shravan continued visiting the woman even at the new place in the absence of her family members.

Around 1 am on Tuesday, when the entire family was sleeping, Sharvan entered the woman’s house by jumping over the compound wall. He then misbehaved with her right in front of her husband and children following which she slapped him and sent him out of the house.

Feeling humiliated, the woman immolated herself after her family went back to sleep.

Her family members woke up on hearing her screams. They doused her and rushed her to the Gandhi Hospital in an ambulance. She died while undergoing treatment, police said.

Dundigal inspector A. Venkatesham said Shra-van had earlier been arrested in a case of murder at Jeedimetla and was notorious for his illegal activities. He even reportedly pressurised the woman to let him have a physical relationship with her daughter.

"Based on a complaint from the victim’s husband, we have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Shravan. He has been taken into custody and will be presented before the court for judicial remand,” the inspector added.
