Hyderabad: At dawn on Monday, a bus belonging to the state-run TS Road Transport Corporation, travelling at an uncontrolled speed, mowed down and killed three men: 35-year-old software engineer S. Janardhan, employed by Capgemini, Abdul Hameed, 50, and B. Dhasharath, 42, both auto rickshaw drivers. One person was injured. The incident occurred at Gachibowli Chowrasta at around 6.30 am. The bus driver Jahangir is reportedly absconding; he may have been drunk at the time of the mishap.
S. Janardhan had migrated to the city a week ago from Bengaluru. On Monday, he returned to Hyderabad to begin work. After he got down from an inter-state bus and while he was negotiating the auto fare with the other two deceased, the speeding bus, which was en route to Koli from Lingampally, crashed into them.
Executive director, Road Transport Organisation, C Vinod Kumar, said, “The driver of the bus joined RTC in 2013 and was regularised in 2015. He underwent the periodical medical examination in July as is done to drivers who are above 45 years old. He was found to be fit for driving the vehicle.”
Raidurgam Inspector Ram Babu told this newspaper, “We got a call from 100; there were some police near the Gachibowli Chowrasta and they rushed to the spot. Fearing (the anger of) the locals, the bus driver escaped from the spot. We formed a team and have launched a manhunt. We have booked the case under section 304(a) and 337(a) IPC.”
