Hyderabad: One held for attempted bank theft

He went to the Mallapur branch to deposit money in his account and recced the place to commit theft.

Hyderabad: Nacharam police on Monday arrested a 21-year-old who had attempted to rob the Mallapur branch of the SBI last month.

His attempt was first foiled by the strong locks inside the place and the clues from the place led to his arrest two weeks later by the Nacharam Police.

DCP, Malkajgiri, R. Umamaheshwar Sharma said the accused, Hari Krishna Debnath, a machine operator staying at Boduppal of Medipally, had planned to rob the bank during the third weekend of August.

“He went to the Mallapur branch to deposit money in his account and recced the place to commit theft. Between August 18 and 20, he approached the place, made a hole on the rear wall and entered the bank. He drilled another hole and entered the hall having the ATM, and tried to break open the chest but in vain. He damaged the CCTV cameras while leaving,” Mr Sharma said. On August 20, the staff opened the bank and noticed the burglary attempt. Based on a complaint from bank manager, the Nacharam police booked a case and began a probe.
