Chennai: Two masked men fail to break ATM in vain
Chennai: The Minjur police launched a hunt to nab a duo that tried to break open an ATM in the wee hours of Friday. When a customer visited an ATM centre that belongs to Canara Bank in Valluvar Nagar in Minjur to withdraw money, he found the ATM machine broken on Friday morning. The customer alerted Minjur police and the police rushed to the spot and analyzed CCTV footages taken from the ATM centre.
According to police, the bank staff filled cash in the ATM machine on Thursday evening. “On Friday, two men wearing masks entered the ATM and tried to break open the machine. However, they could not break the machine and fled the spot,” the police said. It is said that the ATM centre did not have a security guard.
The police added that the duo had cut off the CCTV wires and tried breaking the ATM machine with an iron rod. Minjur police registered a case and are investigating.
2 held for stealing ATM batteries
Two persons were arrested at Royapuram on Thursday night for allegedly stealing batteries in ATM centres in the city. The arrested were identified as Ramesh (27) and Vignesh (28) of Setti Thottam in Royapuram.
According to police, a case had been registered on August 2 regarding the stealing of ATM batteries from ATM centres. “The police had found that similar thefts were reported in other parts and investigation has been conducted using CCTV grabs,” the police said.
On suspicion, Royapuram police investigated Ramesh and Vignesh and interrogations revealed that they were involved in various battery thefts in Royapuram locality. They were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
