Bengaluru: Firing in air, former jawan held

He fired two rounds in air, following which Mahesh ran to his house out of fear.

Bengaluru: A 40-year-old former army man was arrested in connection with opening fire in air to threaten his neighbour, following a verbal duel late Thursday.

The army man has been identified as Lakshman Khandekar, a resident of BDA Layout in Subramanyapura and a native of Belagavi. His cousin brother Sandeep (19), who opened fire from Lakshman’s licensed pistol, is absconding and efforts are on to nab him.

Lakshman took voluntary retirement from the army a few years ago and was residing with his family in BDA Layout in Subramanyapura. While Lakshman drove cab for living, Sandeep, a class 10 drop out, who had come to the city in search of job was staying with Lakshman.

On Thursday night at around 11.30 pm, Lakshman and Sandeep under the influence of alcohol were creating nuisance outside their house. When their neighbor Mahesh objected, it led to a verbal fight between the two.

Sandeep became angry, went inside the house and brought Lakshman’s pistol and pointed against Mahesh. He fired two rounds in air, following which Mahesh ran to his house out of fear.

Later he filed a complaint against Lakshman and Sandeep for threatening him with a pistol and opening fire in the air.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested Lakshman and are looking for Sandeep who is at large.
