Labourer held, suspect found murdered in Kakkanad
Kochi: A migrant labourer was arrested, and his aide was found murdered in a lodge in Kakkanad on Wednesday during a probe into the ATM theft bids last week.
Police said the main accused, Muhammad Muslim Ansari, 35, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, killed his accomplice Mohammed Imran, 35, a native of West Bengal, following a dispute.
They recovered the body based on information elicited during his interrogation. They said they traced the bike used for the ATM robbery which was found stationed in front of the three-storeyed lodge located at the Western end of Alapatt-Kunnumpuram lodge. They soon arrested Ansari from a rented room in the second-storeyed building.
“Ansari told his aide was found dead in the room. We found the body stacked inside a jute bag concealed under a coat. The body is more than a day old, and it bore deep knife injuries in neck and stomach,” sources said. “During further interrogation, Ansari admitted having committed the crime following a dispute.”
An identification parade will be held on Thursday or Friday when neighbours in the lodge would be asked to identify him.
Cops said they were also behind the robbery bid at the ATM of Union Bank at Kakkanad last week.
