Bengaluru: Bike thief buys pistol to kill his parents, arrested
Bengaluru: A 25-year-old diploma graduate was arrested for possessing a country-made pistol, eight live bullets and two empty cartridges.
What surprised the police most was the reason behind Sharath’s to buy the pistol. He had bought it to kill his parents for rejecting his marriage with his lady love and then to shoot himself dead, the police said.
If he had gone ahead with his plan, it would have been Sharath’s fifth suicide attempt. The investigations further revealed that Sharath is a notorious criminal involved in high-end bike thefts. The police also recovered 10 bikes worth Rs 8.37 lakh from him.
Sharath, who did not take up any job after the completion of his diploma, started stealing bikes to lead a lavish life with his girlfriend. Sharath decided to speak to his parents about his love and convince them for marriage. But, Sharath’s father did not agree and a fight broke out between the two.
Angry with their refusal, Sharath allegedly tried to kill his parents by poisoning their food, but they caught him and threw him out of the house. Sharath went into depression and decided to end his life by consuming sleeping pills, but somehow he survived.
Later, he crashed his car near Magadi to die, but ended up with fractured bones. Consuming pesticides too could not fulfil his desire. Finally, he searched on Google the most effective ways to die. After doing further research, he bought a pistol and bullets to kill his parents and later shoot himself dead. However, before he could do that, he was caught, the police said.
How was he caught?
On July 5, 2018, Sharath was riding a scooter near Kurubarahalli Circle when he saw policemen on night patrol. After seeing the cops, Sharath suddenly accelerated to escape. But the cops noticed it and caught him after a chase.
He was detained and during the check, the police recovered the pistol and live bullets.
When the cops asked for bike papers, he revealed that he stole it a few days and also that he had been stealing bikes for years.
The police recovered 10 bikes from him, including six Royal Enfield Bullets worth Rs 8.37 lakh, and claim to have solved 10 bike theft cases in different police stations in the city.
