Real life climax hits reel lives of 3 films

Producers, filmmakers in a fix over Dileep's arrest.

KOCHI: Like it did to the thousands watching their evening television, the one-line scroll shocked them too - filmmakers, producers and scriptwriters working with actor Dileep, watching the scroll of his arrest in the actor abduction case in Kochi. Unfortunately, all three films in the immediate pipeline are by first time directors.

Ramaleela, a political thriller, was all set to release soon, with Dileep in the lead as a politician - an MLA. It is the first directorial venture of Arun Gopy, who has worked as an assistant and associate director in the industry for over seven years. “What do I say? I need some time to understand the situation. All of a sudden, I can’t make a decision or predict what will happen to the film,” Arun Gopy says, on asked about what’s going to happen to Ramaleela. The film is produced by Tommichan Mulakupaadam.

Another upcoming project with Dileep in the lead is Kammara Sambhavam, written by Murali Gopy and directed by Rathish Ambat, an ad filmmaker making his feature film debut. It is chaos now, let it settle down first, Murali says, on asked for comments. The film, produced by Gokulam Gopalan, also features Tamil stalwarts like Siddharth and Bobby Simha. Dileep plays in it 94-year-old Kammaran.

There is also the much-talked-about Professor Dinkan, which has been in the news ever since the followers of Dinkoism took offence to the title. It is a 3D movie with Dileep and Namitha Pramod in the lead, with renowned cinematographer Ramachandra Babu turning director for the first time. Dileep plays a magician in the film, produced by Sanal Thottam.
