Karnataka: Kidnapping case Film director, 4 others seek bail
Bengaluru: A movie director and four others, who are accused kidnapping a publicist over financial dispute, have approached the High Court seeking bail.
The accused, A. Madan, Chalapathi, Praveen Kumar, Murthy, and Mohan, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping Paramesh, 29, a resident of Shivanahalli in Basaveshwaranagar, who owns Ravi Akshaya Advertising, an agency involved in movie promotions.
Madan had directed the recently released Kannada movie Eradu Kanasu. It had not fared well at the box office. Madan, who is said to have invested some money in the movie, suffered losses. He was upset that the film was not promoted aggressively.
As Paramesh was in charge of publicity and he was paid Rs 16.3 lakh, Madan started blaming Paramesh that he did not plan the promotions properly and asked him to return Rs 8 lakh. Paramesh, in turn, started avoiding Madan.
Madan allegedly chalked out a plan to recover his money by kidnapping Paramesh for ransom.
BBMP official files plea
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is set to file its statement of objections to the petition filed by a BBMP official seeking to quash the proceedings against him.
The ACB sleuths had raided the houses of Additional Commissioner (East Zone) BBMP Dr K.C. Yatish Kumar and his office at Mayo Hall.
The sleuths had confiscated a four-storeyed building worth Rs 1.25 core in which he was staying, 1.7 kg of gold ornaments, 1.6 kg of silver ornaments and Rs 4.16 lakh in cash. The court on Monday said that after ACB filing of the statement of objections, the prayer for grant of the interim order would be considered.
