Hyderabad: A railway employee’s passion to own a luxury car made him steal from his childhood friend’s residence.
The suspect identified as Mohd. Moiz Ahmed 23, went to meet his friend, who had returned home from US on a vacation.
But when she left home leaving him alone for a short period of time, Moiz walked inside and stole cash kept in the home by her parents. The Rachakonda police arrested him on Sunday and recovered the Rs 7.65 lakh stolen cash. Inquiries revealed that Moiz had already paid an advance to buy a Hyundai Verna from the amount.
DCP, LB Nagar M. Venkateswar Rao said after analysing the crime scene, that an insider's role was suspected. “During further investigations, Moiz was questioned during which he confessed to committing the offence. He was arrested and will be produced before the court.” he said.
Moiz is a resident of Yousufguda. The victim S. Narender Reddy and his wife are residents of agricultural colony at Hasthinapuram under Meerpet police station limits and work as government teachers. Their daughter and Moiz are childhood friends and both completed their engineering. While the girl went to the US for higher studies, Moiz got his father Mohd Muntaz Ahmed’s job in the railways on compassionate grounds, a few months ago and has been working as a technician at Secunderabad ever since.
Moiz got to know that the girl came home on a vacation and went to her house to meet her last Monday.
A few other friends joined them at her home. However, the girl and others went to a nearby medical shop to buy medicine, leaving Moiz alone in the home while her parents were away at work.
Taking advantage of this, Moiz walked into the bedroom and opened the cupboard with the keys kept beside and took the cash.
Later in the evening, when her parents returned home, they found the cash missing and lodged a complaint. Police nabbed Moiz and on inquiry, he confessed to committing the offence.
