Telangana: Man held for defrauding army soldier
Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested a cyber fraudster who defrauded an Army soldier of Rs 60,000, by diverting the money to an e-wallet. The fraudster, identified as Gedala Mahesh, hails from AP. Police said the victim, Harikesh Yadav, is a soldier in the Army.
In April, after he withdrew money from his account, he found the balance was less and that Rs 60,000 was missing. Later, he found from the bank that the amount was lost in 32 transactions on PayTM on April 4 and 5.
He later remembered that he had lost the mobile phone which was linked to his bank accounts for receiving SMS alerts, but he had not got it blocked. Police found the SIM card was stolen by the suspect who also obtained details of the victim’s ATM card, as both of them worked at the residence of a retired Army officer in Yapral.
Police said that Mahesh also stole his friend Ramprasad’s ATM card whose PIN he knew. “With the help of friend Ramarao, who is absconding, he transferred money to four PayTM wallets and then transferred it to the account of Ramprasad. Later the duo withdrew money from ATMs in ECIL and Saket and shared it among them,”
