Warangal: Two contract workers who were working at a forest base camp molested a 22-year-old tribal woman on Friday night in the forest area near Bhayakkapet in Tadvai mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district.
A complaint was received by the police on Saturday morning. The police took the accused forest base camp workers Santosh and Vijay into custody. District SP R. Bhaskaran told DC that a case under IPC 366, 376 (D) and 506 was registered against the suspects.
Three Gotti Koya women Sodi Somidi, 17, Sodi Bhemamma, 22, and the victim, 22, residents of Musalammapenta hamlet near Bhayakkapet went into the forest to collect Mahua flowers.
Forest base camp officials Santosh and Vijay saw the women and chased them. While Bheemamma and Somidi managed to escape, the other woman was captured and molested, police said.
The two women reached the hamlet and informed their elders. On Saturday morning, a group of tribals reached the Tadvai police station and lodged a complaint.
It may be noted that on May 15, tribals staged a protest at the collectorate alleging that they are being harassed and that forest officials were misbehaving with their women. They were assured by joint collector Amoy Kumar that their complaints would be looked into.
