Bengaluru: Cop shoots, injures rowdy

A complaint was filed against Nakul at the Vidyaranyapura police station and the police went to Nakul's house to arrest him.

Bengaluru: A high drama prevailed in Vidyaranyapura on Friday after a police inspector shot at a rowdy, who allegedly attacked the policemen while trying to evade arrest.

The rowdy, Nakul, a prime accused in the murder of a Gram Panchayat member’s husband in February 2016, was also involved in an attempt to murder case. On Friday evening, he barged into the house of one Joseph and assaulted him, the police said. A complaint was filed against Nakul at the Vidyaranyapura police station and the police went to Nakul’s house to arrest him. As they were holding him, Nakul allegedly attacked a police constable in a bid to escape. Vidyaranyapura inspector Puneeth Kumar shot at Nakul's leg and shifted him to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

This year, this is the third time that Inspector Puneeth has shot at rowdies and others. On February 28, he opened fire on chain-snatcher Manja and earlier in January, he had shot at two burglars. He has claimed that all these incidents were in self-defence.
